What is a portfolio plan?

A portfolio plan is an automatic bidding tool that bids on listings that match your lending criteria. For example, if you only want to lend to borrowers with B credit and less than 20% debt-to-income ratio at 15%, you can set up a portfolio plan which will bid on all of the listings that match those criteria.

In fact, each portfolio plan can contain up to ten sets of listing criteria, or "slices". Each slice can have its own credit grade, bid rate, and any other credit or social criteria that you find important. Prosper has created 4 "model" portfolio plans you may wish to use as templates for your portfolio plans.

What are the benefits of creating a portfolio plan?

Not only can portfolio plans help save you time in bidding, but they may also allow you to diversify your risk by spreading smaller loans across many borrowers with specially defined characteristics, using historical Prosper loan repayment performance.

Four model plans to get you started!

For your convenience, Prosper has set up 4 "model" portfolio plans you may wish to use as templates for your portfolio plans. Each of the 4 plans presents a range of progressively increasing risk and potential return based on historical loan payment performance of Prosper borrowers with characteristics that match the criteria of the slices that comprise the plan. Simply click "View criteria" under each plan's name to see the borrower credit segments and minimum bid rates of the slices that comprise the plan. If you like the borrower credit segments and minimum bid rates shown in the model plans, you can elect to use these as your portfolio plan.

If you want to use the model plans, you don't have to pick just one; you can place any amount of your funds in as many portfolio plans as you like, and specify the minimum bid rates of your choosing. If you don't like the borrower criteria used in the model portfolio plans, you can edit the criteria, slice by slice, and build your own portfolio plan.

How do I set up a portfolio plan?

To set up a portfolio plan using the model plans, just go to "Bid on Loans > Portfolio Plans", and select the portfolio plan that you want to set up first. Then enter the amount to allocate to the plan, and the amount the plan should bid on each listing (also known as its "diversification"). After you confirm the plan's settings and start it, the plan will start bidding on listings that match its criteria. If you want to add more plans, go right ahead. You can add as many portfolio plans as you want.

If you don't want to use the 4 model plans to build your portfolio plan, you can build your own plan from scratch with your desired listing criteria and bid rates. Just go to "Bid on Loans > Portfolio Plans" and choose "Start from scratch".

Where can I review my portfolio plan settings?

Go to "My Account > Lending" and click "Portfolio Plans". Once there, you will be able to add more plans or edit the settings of your existing plans.

Where can I review the bids that are placed through my portfolio plans?

Go to "My Account > Lending", click "Bids", and look for those marked "Plan". This indicates that the bid was placed by one of your portfolio plans. If you prefer, you can always bid manually on those listings again (see below).

Can I still bid on a listing that one of my portfolio plans has bid on?

Yes, you can always add more bids to a listing, even if you have already bid in the past.

What if my portfolio plan bid is outbid?

If you're outbid, you can always go to the listing and place a manual bid by clicking the "Bid Now" button. Otherwise, your funds will be used to bid on other listings that match the criteria of your portfolio plan.

Can I make changes to the criteria or bid rates of the 4 model portfolio plans?

Yes, you can. Just go to "Bid on Loans > Portfolio Plans", choose the model plan you want to use as a template, and click "Continue". On the next screen, click "Edit plan", which will let you edit the plan's name and description, any of the slices and bid rates, and the sort order.

Can I stop a portfolio plan from placing bids?

Yes, you can change your settings at any time. Go to "My Account > Lending" and click "Portfolio Plans". Then click "Pause" next to the portfolio plan that you want to stop bidding. Keep in mind that previously-placed bids will remain active until matched or the termination of the borrower's listing, whichever occurs first.

Once you've paused a portfolio plan, you can re-activate it by clicking the "Activate" link on the same page.

Can I cancel bids placed previously by portfolio plans?

No, you cannot cancel bids at any time.

Can I allocate funds to a portfolio plan before I have the money in my account?

Yes, if you are waiting for funds to transfer into your Prosper account, or want to use incoming loan payments to make new bids, you can specify an amount to bid greater than the amount in your cash balance.

Once the transfers and loan payments arrive, bids will be placed automatically on listings that meet the criteria of your portfolio plans.

Can I prevent my portfolio plans from bidding on certain listings?

Of course! Just set up your account preferences to block bids on specific groups or borrowers. Your portfolio plans will never bid on listings from blocked groups or blocked borrowers.
